The main feature distinguishing Bibikabad rugs is that they come from the village of Bibikabad in the Hamadan region of western Iran. Meaning “the village of grandmother,” Bibi Kabad families have been weaving fine, thick rugs for a very long time. Distinguishing features of Bibikabad rugs include bold coloring, all-over patterning, and small, scaled/hooked paisley designs. In contrast to other types of Middle Eastern rug, Bibikabad rugs typically don’t have a lot of solid color space. Intricate designs cover the entire rug.
Bibikabad rugs share a tendency toward geometric or nesting floral patterns, a predilection for bold colors like red, with blue and green highlights, and a tendency toward wide borders. However, beyond that, Bibikabad rugs display a level of creativity that stems from the mix of cultures they represent. They tend to come in allover designs, usually the Herati pattern or Boteh (Paisley), which may at times have a medallion as well. Even the borders on Bibikabads are based on the Boteh motif.
This vintage hand knotted Persian Bibikabad Rug is made from 100% wool; natural wool pile, a natural wool foundation and natural vegetable dyes. This tribal, nomadic rug features a geometrical pattern in terracotta, brown, black and blue. Koliaee rugs are hard wearing and look beautiful on wooden floors. This rug is made with thick thread and high quality durable wool. It is a reliable and durable rug which can be used heavily for a long time.
There are many benefits to natural wool rugs. Not only are they incredibly soft and comfortable, there is also the benefit of natural wool being fire retardant, eco-friendly and biodegradable. The biggest benefit of natural wool is to your health. Natural wool and dyes are very safe for children, asthma and allergy sufferers because wool rugs reduce the dust in the air to more than half of that found on hard surfaces. Wool is the best fibre for a rug because it is a natural fibre so if you have pets such as dogs or cats their hair does not stick to the rug, it actually repels it and pet hair can be removed very easily by vacuuming the rug.
